JOSEF SCHNITT

Josef Schnitt,my great grandfather,was born in Germany July 14,1889. He lived in Dingolfing(on the Isar River),Germany before coming to america with Anna Hoppel(buried as Anna Heisler in St. Joseph's Cemetery). He made his voyage from Antwerp, Belgium to Ellis Island NY on the ship,"SS Southwark" in June 1902 & americanized his name to Joseph. His sisters, Maria & Anna came over first & lived in Utica,where they had an uncle,Andreas Lorenz. He died in November of 1970 and is buried with his wife, Emma.

Children: Gladys Marion Schnitt, Walter Schnitt(1911-1978), Alice Schnitt Dennis(1913-1994), Joseph H. Schnitt(1913-1990), Charles F. Schnitt(1915-1987)
